About Me

Hello! My name is Sophia Nelson, and I combine ability, hard work, and passion to produce excellence in the classroom and the gym. My goal is to continue this excellence by attending a university where I will be challenged academically and can contribute to a collegiate gymnastics program.

I am a 14-year-old entering 10th grade at Central High School in Grand Forks, North sophia-web-collageDakota. 2013 was my first year competing as a USAG Level 9 while training Level 10 skills at Red River Valley Gymnastics. I take the most rigorous academic schedule offered in all areas and achieve the highest possible GPA. Likewise, I constantly challenge myself in my training and continue to grow as a gymnast every day. I have shown myself to be a leader at school and the gym.

I began gymnastics five years ago, when I jumped from a recreational class to competing Level 5. I love gymnastics and am driven to fulfill my potential to become ever stronger as a competitor. I was state all-around champion as a Level 7 and Level 8 and hold numerous state titles in individual events. I represented North Dakota on the Super 8 team in 2012 and qualified for Region 4 Championships in 2013 as a Level 9.

I balance my dedication to gymnastics and academics with my other interests. I’m always listening to music.  I sing, play the violin, and pursue the visual arts. I also spend time with my family; traveling and swimming/boating are favorite pastimes. I have one older brother and two younger sisters. My parents are both professors at the University of North Dakota.
