Red River Valley Gymnastics coaches Jenna Mishler and Steve Murray attended the USA Gymnastics University in August at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Huntsville, TX. USAG University offers a certification program for coaches training competitive gymnasts though out the country. Mishler and Murray are among the first coaches in the U.S., and the first in ND, to attain these levels of certifications.
Mishler, a former RRVG athlete, was awarded the Junior Olympic Team Coach Certification. This certification included coursework and testing on coaching skills and techniques of coaches training compulsory and beginning optional level gymnasts. Mishler is the current Preschool and Progressive Director and Head Compulsory Coach at RRVG. She has been with RRVG for eight years.
Murray, a 30 year veteran of men’s and women’s competitive gymnastics, received National Coach Certification. To attain this certification, participants in the program needed to exhibit knowledge of the skills and techniques essential to train optional and elite level athletes. Murray states, “This program from USA Gymnastics is the best educational and certification program for gymnastics coaches in the U.S., and RRVG is looking forward to having more of our coaches complete this training and certification.” Murray is the current Executive Director and Team Director at RRVG.
